You've seen all the cool kids with their Lightroom HDR tutorials, right? I'll show you how to do HDR photography with the free program called Gimp! Restore lost detail in blown-out highlights and crushed shadows without buying a fancy editor or trying to figure out the weird free HDR applications out there only to end up with what looks like a mangled Christmas tree painted by a toddler. This tutorial will quickly explain how to load your bracketed exposures into Gimp, mask off only the parts that have been damaged by dynamic range limits, and combine the layers to bring back that delicious lost detail. Update: this technique works the same way with the newly-released Gimp 2.10. I'll publish future tutorials with 2.10 instead of 2.8. https://www.jodybruchon.com/
